Katie and AJ created a wedding day that was completely and totally true to who they are, incorporating their Vietnamese and Filipino heritages throughout every step. With the most epic engagement photos (seriously, there were elephants involved) setting the stage for the big day, keep reading to see the most incredible collection of bridal shoes, the gorgeous lanterns in front of the chapel, the cutest cake topper, and which vendor was their absolute favorite.

The Love Story

A not so secret, secret; While we technically met on a dating app, we generally tell people we met through our mutual passion of helping others. We were both drawn to each other as he was in nursing school and I was already working as a nurse. I’ve always had the suspicion I’ve met him before when I was in nursing school while doing clinical rotation on the unit he was working at the time (years before we started dating).

Why They Chose The Chandelier

We both fell in love with The Chandelier of Gruene the moment we stepped onto the grounds. The quaint open air chapel and large reception hall are tucked away in such a beautiful and serene location. We walked around the grounds and envisioned our guests at the outdoor bar area and fire pit. We were welcomed into the reception hall and shown around the bride and groom suites and felt that it was enough space for all of our loved ones to share precious moments leading up to our “I do’s”. We felt The Chandelier was the all in one package as we had the chapel, reception hall and the lodging all within walking distance. We knew our guests would be as comfortable and delighted as we were during our visit.

Memorable Moments

Our most memorable moment from our wedding was our first look. We initially were not going to do one until our photographer had enlightened us. We were so glad that we did not one, but two first looks! One with my traditional white wedding dress and one with my traditional Vietnamese wedding attire.

Their Best Advice

Enjoy the process as much as you possibly can! Spend lots of time together and don’t get caught up in all the planning. Make sure you’re taking care of yourself. And make the dress fit you, not the other way around! You’re beautiful as you are.

Making It Personal

I loved incorporating our heritage into our wedding the most. The quarantine actually gave us the opportunity to rethink some of our previous selections and allowed us to give our wedding our own personal touch. One of the details I love the most was our Vietnamese lantern arch. I spent a lot of time designing the arch and planning it out with the help of my maid of honor. We imported a total of 112 lanterns to display and share with our guests.

An Inviting Touch

I also loved how our wedding invitations came out. Both pre- and post quarantine sets. It started as a fun way to pass the time while we were sick at home. However, since designing our invitation suite I found a hobby that has since evolved into a community of women supporting women.

Bridesmaid With A Camera

Most of our wedding vendors were absolutely amazing and so supportive of having to postpone our big day but the #1 Wedding Vendor on my list would have to be Allison Jeffers Photography. When initially contacting her to capture our elephant engagement photos I could immediately sense just how professional and endearing she was. She describes herself like a bridesmaid with a camera and that’s the most spot on description of what she was to me. She has been the most helpful of all wedding vendors and has truly gone above and beyond. I feel as if I’ve made a friend for life with her and her second shooter Aubrey.

Is anyone else just inexplicably happy after looking through all of their photos? Katie is absolutely glowing and has so much positivity that we can’t help but be happy right along with her. We also love that they took postponing their wedding in stride and used it as an opportunity to make it SO totally them. Seriously we cannot get enough. When talking about their best advice, Katie stated that you are beautiful as you are. If you’re as in love with this incredible couple as we are, you may be interested in following along with the health and wellness blog they just started – it’s real, honest, and uplifting.
